WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:
​Do you want an innovative way to teach paddock to plate or inspire your students about career pathways in ag? An interactive virtual tour is your answer. Think Digital is the creator of FarmVR.com and have produced virtual farm tours aligned to the curriculum for the likes of Woolworths, Dairy Australia, MLA, Wine Australia and government agricultural bodies like PIRSA and Agriculture Victoria. Interactive virtual farm tours provide an engaging learning experience to students, allowing them access to farms or facilities they may not normally be able to visit due to biosecurity and travel restrictions. They allow students to deep dive into a particular subject and explore at their own pace. In this workshop we will explore what a virtual farm tour is and the benefits, examples of existing virtual tours, Primezone resources, and DIY virtual tour tools. You will walk away with the skills and confidence to integrate virtual farm tours into your classroom that can be viewed on a desktop, mobile, or VR headset.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:
Food and Nutrition Security is an active discussion point across the community and school classrooms around the globe. How are we going to sustainably feed the world? For school students, it is a hot topic and the Crawford Fund  has developed curriculum aligned resources and assessment rubrics to support educators embed contemporary case studies from the Asia Pacific into their classroom.
Development for a Better Future will:

• Broaden your teaching content to incorporate current and real-world examples of agriculture in the Asia Pacific,
• Engage with content experts (researchers) to contextualise your learning programs,
• Empower your students to create a better future for food and nutrition security in Asia Pacific incorporating the SDG’s,

WORKSHOP TITLE: Sustainable Futures: Growing the NextGen with ForestLearning

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:
​Discover sustainable futures and forestry education for the next generation by joining our workshop. We’ll delve into the source of renewable wood products and the significance of wood in our society, especially after the 2020 toilet paper shortage. The workshop aims to provide engaging teaching resources that align with the Australian Curriculum, created by ForestLearning and other education providers like PIEFA. Furthermore, attendees will learn about upcoming resources launching with GTAV, DATTAVic, and ASTA.
The event will highlight ForestLearning’s latest and most popular resources, including ForestVR, Drones in Forestry, and Tree Carbon Storage Tape Measure, along with their accompanying teacher guides, student workbooks, hands-on activities, and integration of technology such as VR and microdrones. Responsible Wood, a member of PEFC International, will also join us to share their vision and practical actions to ensure that Australia’s forests and forest-based products are among the most sustainable in the world.

ForestLearning is an initiative of Forest and Wood Products Australia and has been a member of PIEFA since 2009. Our aim is to provide teachers with free, unbiased, and robust curriculum materials and tools for primary and secondary schools, with a focus on Australia’s sustainable productive forests and forest-based products, such as wood and paper.

WORKSHOP TITLE: Primary Resources from the NSW DPI – There has never been a better time to start teaching ag in primary schools

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:
Primary Resources from the NSW DPI – so you don’t think you can teach ag? There’s no agriculture syllabus for primary schools so students don’t need to learn ag before year 7 right? Actually there has never been a better time to start teaching ag in primary schools. A general acceptance of the need to increase food and fibre production while reducing environmental impacts require innovative and sustainable food and fibre production. And to meet this increasing demand we need today’s students to care about, understand and be engaged with primary industries. Agriculture fits nicely into the primary Science and Technology, Geography and History syllabuses. The NSW Department of Primary Industries Schools Program’s fully resourced programs are available (free) to guide primary teachers in ensuring that our younger students understand where their food and fibre comes from. Students will understand how they can play a part in ensuring primary industries meet the needs of our ever-growing population into the future. In this session we will share with you the primary resources, demonstrate how they can work in your classroom and have a go at some hands-on activities that are easy for you to bring to your classroom.

WORKSHOP TITLE: QCAA – Implementation of the Senior 2019 QLD Science Syllabuses

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:
Implementation of the Queensland 2019 Agricultural Science syllabus The introduction of the new Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) in 2020 has been the biggest change in Queensland’s senior curriculum and assessment system in a generation. It has seen the implementation of a new Agricultural Science syllabus as part of a suite of ten new science syllabuses. Along with the introduction of a 50% external assessment, this syllabus includes three new internal assessment techniques – data test, student experiment and research investigation. This presentation will outline the features of the new Queensland Agricultural Science syllabus and describe key quality assurance processes. Key learnings from the initial years of implementation of the new syllabus will be shared. The benefits and challenges of using a common framework for all senior sciences, including subjects as different as Ag Science and Psychology, will be discussed.
