National Schools Food and Fibre Education Strategy
The National Schools Food and Fibre Education Strategy is a landmark, cross-industry initiative designed to embed food and fibre learning into every Australian classroom. Led by AgriFutures Australia and managed by consultancy RMCG, the Strategy has been developed with the support of 15 Research and Development Corporations (RDCs) who have united to strengthen education’s role in securing the future of Australia’s food and fibre industries.
The Strategy responds to critical challenges facing the agriculture, fisheries and forestry sectors — from workforce shortages to community trust — by creating a coordinated national approach to food and fibre education. Its focus is on equipping teachers and students with high-quality, curriculum-aligned resources, expanding opportunities for real-world learning, and ensuring food and fibre subjects are accessible in more schools nationwide.
Development of the Strategy has been an open and collaborative process, including consultation with educators, curriculum authorities, government agencies and industry stakeholders. Draft pillars emphasise increasing career awareness, broadening subject offerings, and integrating food and fibre concepts across all learning areas. Feedback from the education community continues to shape the Strategy to ensure it meets the needs of schools while supporting industry’s long-term sustainability.
PIEFA is proud to have partnered in this process, championing national efforts to connect classrooms with food and fibre through resources, partnerships and sector-wide leadership.
The Strategy was published in November 2025. See below for further information:
