The issue of farm safety is one that continues to be a large concern, with alarming statistics that show the farming and agriculture sector continue to experience some of the highest rates of work-related injuries and fatalities across the nation.
PIEFA, with funding from the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, is developing a ready-to-use, easy-to-deliver resource package, focusing on farm safety. Resources specifically target high school students, looking at ways they can be part of the process and solution to safety issues on farms.
The project is called Farm Safety A.C.E (Assess, Change, Engage) and the resource pack demonstrates, via several teacher friendly and student focused activities, a range of safety issues on farms, and how students of today can be the core component of changes of farms.
The resource kit is being piloted in Term One of 2023 in schools across Australia. We'll be gathering feedback from the pilot program and plan to roll-out the resource package soon after. We look forward to sharing more information across PIEFA's social media platforms and in our monthly newsletters. Stay tuned!
