In December 2025, the Primary Industries Education Foundation Australia (PIEFA) in association with the Ag Institute Australia (AIA) South Australia Division selected Emily Steer as the 2026 PIEFA Student Compendium Intern.
Emily was preceded in the role by Jordan Norman, who PIEFA would like to acknowledge for their outstanding contribution as the 2025 intern.
Emily grew up in the small town of Lameroo in the Murray Mallee region of South Australia, where her family previously ran a commercial Angus cattle herd. Spending time on the farm sparked her passion for livestock and the agricultural industry at an early age.
She is currently a third-year Animal Science student at The University of Adelaide where she has developed a strong interest in livestock production and animal breeding.
“I am passionate about the future of Australian agriculture and enjoy opportunities that connect industry, education, and research.”
Through the PIEFA internship, she is looking forward to contributing to initiatives that support agricultural education and inspire the next generation to engage with the primary industries.
About the role
The PIEFA Student Compendium Intern’s role includes:
- Working with PIEFA to develop its contribution to the 2026 Student Compendium.
- Representing PIEFA and AIA at events in South Australia and nationally, providing a valuable intern voice and perspective.
- Assisting with supporting and amplifying engagement with the South Australian and National Compendium through promotional activities.
- Emily will also provide her Animal Science student perspective and insights to PIEFA’s audience through a Career Harvest blog series.
The team at PIEFA are delighted to welcome Emily on board as the AIA Student Compendium Intern for 2026. We look forward to collaborating on opportunities in food and fibre education in the South Australian region!
